Natural and artificial ion channels for biosensing platforms.
The single-molecule selectivity and specificity of the binding process together with the expected intrinsic gain factor obtained when utilizing flow through a channel have attracted the attention of analytical chemists for two decades. Sensitive and selective ion channel biosensors for high-throughput screening are having an increasing impact on modern medical care, drug screening, environmenta...
متن کاملO 13: Ion Channels in Autoimmune Neurodegeneration
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system characterized by widespread inflammation, focal demyelination and a variable degree of axonal and neuronal loss. Ionic conductances regulate T cell activation as well as neuronal function and thus have been found to play a crucial role in MS pathogenesis. Since present therapeutical approaches are only parti...
متن کاملLight-regulated ion transport through artificial ion channels based on TiO2 nanotubular arrays.
Light-responsive artificial ion channels are created using self-organized TiO(2) nanotubular arrays, whose ion transport properties can be regulated by external ultraviolet light. The formation of electrostatic traps within TiO(2) nanotubes by UV light contributes to the light-regulated ion transport.

متن کاملIon Channels
Ion channels catalyze the transmembrane movement of small inorganic ions across biological membranes. They do so by forming continuous, hydrophilic pores through which ions can cross the barrier imposed by the lipid bilayer hydrophobic core. Ion channels serve many functions: they underlie the changes in membrane potential that control many cell functions, including the propagated electrical si...
